Begin your family’s journey with us.

Four simple steps — from form to first day at Luka Primary.

How to enrol

Four steps. About one week from start to finish.

Most families complete the whole process in a single visit to the school office.

  1. 01

    Submit the online enquiry

Fill in the short form on our contact page — or come to the school office on any school day between 07:30 and 14:00.

  2. 02

    Receive an interview invitation

Within 2 working days we will phone or WhatsApp you to schedule a 30-minute family conversation with the deputy principal.

  3. 03

    Family interview & school visit

A relaxed conversation about your child — their interests, any learning support needs — plus a 15-minute classroom observation by the Foundation Phase head.

  4. 04

    Confirmation & first day

A signed admission letter and a list of what to bring on day one. We then welcome the child at the gate on their first morning — with breakfast porridge ready.

What to bring

Documents we ask for — and what to do if you don’t have them.

The Department of Basic Education asks every public school to verify a few documents at admission time. We list them honestly here so you know what to expect — and we promise that no child is ever turned away from class while documentation is being sorted out.

For the child

Birth certificate or unabridged birth certificate; immunisation card; previous school report (if transferring); proof of residence in Luka Village or Bojanala East District (a utility bill, a letter from the Kgosi’s office or a sworn affidavit are all accepted).

For the parent or guardian

South African ID or passport, or asylum-seeker / refugee permit. We accept any valid form of guardianship documentation; foster-care, kinship-care and grandparent-headed households are welcomed without hesitation.

Missing something?

Come anyway. The Department’s Admissions Policy (Section 39 of the South African Schools Act) protects every child’s right to provisional admission while documents are being obtained. We will help you get them sorted — we have done it many times.

Honest answers

A few things parents often ask.

Do we pay any fees?

No. Luka Primary is a Quintile 3 No-Fee school. There are no admission fees, tuition fees or examination fees. Stationery is provided by the DBE. Uniforms are not compulsory but encouraged.

What about the school feeding scheme?

Every learner receives breakfast porridge from 07:15 and a midday meal between 11:30 and 12:30 through the National School Nutrition Programme. There is no separate sign-up.

What if my child needs learning support?

Our deputy principal, Mrs Dlamini, will sit with you to discuss any support needs. We work with the Bojanala District inclusion team and have a small in-school support group on Tuesday afternoons.
